Turning blue

In my “Turning blue” project I am trying to show the youthful spirit in the midst of the climate crisis.

The intensification of consumerist lifestyles, the increase in greenhouse gas emissions, and the continuous growth of human population have all called attention to the need of taking a closer look at the undergoing socio-economic changes. Unfortunately, the personal cost of the emerging climate crisis appears to have been lost in the shuffle.

While the global effects of severe weather phenomena such as the loss of homes, mass migrations, and resource wars have all been debated about on the international scale, issues affecting individuals - climate grief, pre-traumatic stress syndrome, and psychopathological syndromes (depression, anxiety disorders) - seem to only be mentioned in scientific literature.

Pro-environmental efforts and reducing one’s carbon footprint - all those little steps undertaken by the paper straw generation, those who are actually committed to making a change - when compared to the enormous amounts of industrial waste, irresponsible policies, and the utmost egoism of the rich, can only cause sorrow and disappointment. The anxiety and guilt worsen and with them the risk of psychological trauma.

Can young people still have their dreams? Is there any sense in planning your life ahead? In my “Turning blue” project I am trying to show the youthful spirit in the midst of the climate crisis.
