Trust in the Unknown (The Language of Nature)

A journey that opens into the untamed Jurassic Nature through greeting and listening, where an alien and noble form of communication resides. The moment, when we experience a deep sense of communion with Nature by acknowledging it as a living entity.

Before the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean—what some call 'the end of the world'—stretches a land that has grown within me for nine months. From the volcanic landscapes of the North, to the ancient rainforests of the West Coast, the icy peaks of the South, and the shores of pristine lakes and blue lagoons, daughters of pure springs rest in silence. Beneath starry underground caves, the light returns to the mystical waters of the East.

Her indigenous name is Aotearoa.

" Dear Mother, the more I gently look at you, the more I feel cradled by the earth beneath my feet and enveloped by the boundless sky. As light grazes the land before slipping into slumber, I find home within the smallest, most sensuous forms—minerals, shells, fragments of your soul.

The deeper I venture into your forests, the more I become enveloped by the silence of creation. Guided by the song of the earth, I move through landscapes of irrepressible beauty and disobedience. An instinctual, tribal dialogue unfolds between us, like the rhythm of a shared breath.

I welcome and honour your presence, celebrating our mysterious bond."

  • This work serves as a profound homage to the intricate relationship between femininity and the nurturing essence of Nature. This project emerges from a transformative journey through the diverse landscapes of New Zealand, where I uncovered a new form of femininity that resonates deeply within the women who inhabit this land. Their strength, gentleness, wisdom, and resilience reflect the wild beauty and nurturing spirit of Aotearoa (New Zealand).

Through a series of evocative black and white photographs, I aim to articulate a dialogue that celebrates the deep connections between women and the Earth, echoing the themes of motherhood and Nature's nurturing qualities.

Drawing inspiration from my letter to Mother Nature, the project reflects the intimate conversations we have with the natural world, where every element—the smallest minerals, the flowing water, and the towering trees—mirrors the forms of femininity. Each image becomes a testament to the sacred bond we share, showcasing how Nature serves as a maternal figure, guiding and supporting us in our existence. Our First Mother.

I invite viewers to engage in a reflective dialogue about their own relationships with Nature.

Ultimately, this project aspires to cultivate a deeper understanding of the silent yet powerful narratives embedded in the landscape, encouraging an appreciation for the profound connections that unite us with both the Earth and the feminine spirit. In this journey, we discover that the story of paradise lies not in the past but in our present communion with nature, reminding us that, like the Earth, femininity is a source of life, wisdom, and resilience.

Thank you.
