The Stranger I Am

This series explores alienation, in-between states, disintegration of self and the fluid nature of identity, mostly but not exclusively in a domestic setting as a stage for societal issues and as a reflection of a state of mind.

This series explores in‑between states and shifting identities, and the difficulty of grasping what is unstable and constantly evolving. The images emerge from feelings of alienation that have always been present in my life but were intensified by a recent move abroad. I work mostly within the domestic space, a microcosm that — because of its gendered nature — contains many ambivalences and tensions and becomes a site where broader societal struggles play out. In this way, it becomes a stage for addressing issues that concern me personally but are also shared and deeply human.

The body is central to my work, allowing me to approach themes such as self‑perception and the gaze of others, empowerment, control, and denial. Drawing on my background in literature and literary theory, I weave these images into a fragmented, non‑linear narrative that formally echoes the fractured, unstable nature of contemporary existence.
