I was often told not to recount, not to repeat, not to fall into the record playing over. But it did. I was in that trap for months. I kept falling there after years. I realised this was a raw place from which there is an opportunity to spiral up or down. I chose up.
This is a collective stance made against sexual violence by survivors from around the globe. Each image was created through personal conversations I had with each person. I took inspiration from their experiences and became a visual translator for their stories. No names are used, instead, I refer to each participant by colour - to respect their anonymity and to tie them all together into the 'spiral of colour' and experience that unites us all.
I fiercely believe that art as a means of expression can propel someone forward in their healing journey. It is also an opportunity to gain a sense of justice, through being witnessed, when the international justice system fails us. Now, more than ever, I believe in the uniting power of images.
