Peter Sutcliffe, known as the Yorkshire Ripper, committed over 20 crimes on women in West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester in the 1970s. These photos explore the notion of place of those crime scenes.
These photographs depict the locations associated with the criminal case of the serial killer Peter Sutcliffe, colloquially known as the Yorkshire Ripper. Sutcliffe killed 13 women and attacked another 8 between 1975 and 1980. The search for Sutcliffe was the most expensive manhunt in European criminal history up until that point. The amount of documents collected during the investigation required the West Yorkshire Police to have concrete pillars put in to the bottom floor of the station, to stop it from collapsing under the paper weight. Sutcliffe died of COVID-19 in 2020 after being imprisoned for 39 years.
