The Last Light Over a Broken City is not only about ruins, but about the quiet glow that still lingers among them. It is a meditation on survival, where fractured walls and children’s laughter meet in the same frame.

THE LAST LIGHT OVER A BROKEN CITY

The Last Light Over a Broken City is more than a photography project for me — it is part of my own memory. I grew up surrounded by streets and buildings that carried stories of life, and I later returned to find them broken, scarred by war. Through my lens, I try to capture not only the destruction, but also the small traces of humanity that survive within it: a child’s laughter in the rubble, a window that still holds light, the resilience of people who refuse to disappear.

This project is deeply personal because it mirrors my own journey, witnessing death and loss, but also moments of beauty and survival. Each photograph is both a testimony and a question: How do we remember what has been taken from us? And how do we find light when the city itself seems to be fading?

For me, photography is not just documentation; it is a way of resisting silence. With this work, I want to preserve the memory of a city and its people before they are forgotten. The project is my attempt to turn pain into visual memory, and memory into something that can inspire hope, even in the darkest places.
