The Last Letter: What Remains Behind

The Last Letter: What Remains Behind is an ongoing photographic essay about what remains after suicide, told from the perspective of those who stay. A final conversation exploring grief, absence and memory, and an attempt to give form to a silent pain.

Dear Silvia,

I'm writing to you for the last time. Even with all the what ifs, I write to reach beyond your suicide — into the silence that followed, and into what is now a reality: you are gone.

The Last Letter: What Remains Behind is an ongoing photographic essay about what remains after someone's suicide, told from the perspective of those who stay. It is a final conversation with a dear friend, and an attempt to give form to a silent pain that remains.

Suicide does not end with death. It leaves a lasting presence in the lives of those who survive, who must learn to live with absence, unanswered questions and profound emptiness.

Through photography and personal archive, I try to stay with that absence — with memory, uncertainty, grief and the things that remain when someone is no longer there — in the things we shared, in the people who remain, and in myself. This work is not an attempt to find answers, but to stay with the questions, and with the life that continues after loss.

So, my dear friend, may our goodbye become the beginning of something bigger than our pain. May it bring some light into the hearts of those, like ours, seeking comfort, answers, or simply an acknowledgement of the unknown that remains in all of us.
