The girls of the lake

The project is about domestic violence and specifically the rape of a girl by her father, a violent act, not only for her, but also for the two sacred concepts, the woman and the family, and is based on a local myth about the creation of Lake Kournas in Crete island.

Sexual abuse, such as incest, violates even more serious aspects of development and relationships, removes the generational order, and conflicts mentally not only directly but also, in the long run, affecting the development of a person's sexuality and overall functioning. At the same time, it destroys her beliefs in the right to security, care, and love that she should expect from family, school, institutions, and society, and is an act that often remains hidden for a lifetime of a woman.

The myth speaks of a beautiful long-haired girl who long ago lived in a village with her father who was a priest, right in the area where the lake is located. One day, while they went to their field, they sat down a bit to rest.

The girl started combing her hair that "clouded" her father who began to approach her in a mischievous mood. The frightened daughter desperately shout "Sink and filled with water, and I'll be the apparition of the lake!"

Then the area immediately sank into the water, creating the lake. Many residents of the area say that they have seen the fairy combing her hair under the moon, sitting on a rock in the lake.
