Tears

« Tears » is a series of self-portraits started in 2016 based on the healing power of photography. From childhood we sometimes observe ourselves crying in the mirror, exaggerating our facial expressions. Watching their reflection cry, the child checks in with their emotions, confronts themself with this state of extreme vulnerability, narcissistic and fascinating. In my case, the action of grabbing the camera, making adjustments, focusing, immobilizing my body, holding my breath and finally freezing the moment instantly stops the flow of tears. The emotion is captured on film, with formal constraints of framing and staging, and will reveal itself during chemical processing. The series consists of black & white, color and hand painted photographs.

Although the meaning of these tears only belongs to me, the result is here for all to see in a mise en abyme of exchanged glances. It is a series that will continue to document fragile moments, heartbreaking and melancholic, silent and yet so loud. These self-portraits bear witness to my photographic approach; a love letter to my vision of archiving and the importance of remembrance.
