Street photography in dozens of locations around the world, on five continents.

RICHARD SHARUM: STRANGER(s)

A collection of street photographs and street portraits taken in various parts of the world, over 5 continents, in a time spanning since 2006. STRANGER(s) is an invitation to open up to all people, regardless of color, sex, gender, political affiliation, or country of origin. With these photographs, these strangers have allowed me to get close, and there is a mutual agreement for both of us to let each other in, if only for a moment. With STRANGER(s) I try to show that most differences between people are arbitrary, with the only thing truly separating people being their own false perspectives of distance and reluctance to speak to one another. This is my response to what I see as a growing trend of personal isolationism, resulting in a general, world-wide reduction of empathy. It is my belief that if we understood the imbalance of similarity vs. uniqueness, there would be less problems in this world and social justice would be less the global problem it continues to be.
