Story of a young adult girl

This project explores adolescent motherhood in Havana; the story of a family with a fractured and dysfunctional reality, with its lights, shadows, and dreams, has defined the path of this work.

The Story of a Grown Girl began in 2022, after meeting Betty during my wanderings through Central Havana, an 11-year-old girl already burdened with adult responsibilities. She and her family, women living in daily survival mode, carrying a family tradition that has led them to that point in their lives opened the doors of their home to me through my unexpected visits. They drew me into their world and granted me access to their intimacy, allowing me to understand the shadows and light of a life that has been difficult since birth. This project aims to delve into one of the deepest layers of the society in which I live, a reality that is present and latent there, in contrast with a world perhaps unattainable for these people. The analog technique has been used in its entirety in the 35mm and 120mm formats.

This project is a candidate for PhMuseum 2026 Photography Grant
