SEOUL — Circulating Across Asia

SEOUL is an ongoing independent photobook project by Tokyo-based photographer RYO KATSUMURA, gradually circulating through bookstores, art spaces, and zine communities across Asia.

RYO KATSUMURA is a Tokyo-based photographer working at a design company in Japan.

Due to company policy, commissioned works created for clients cannot be publicly presented, so he independently started his personal photographic practice outside of commercial work.

In 2026, he quietly began from zero under his own name, without presenting previous background or career history. Since then, his first photo zine “SEOUL” has gradually started circulating through independent bookstores, media platforms, and photo communities across Asia.

The project has been featured by media in Taiwan and Thailand, and distributed through bookstores and independent spaces in Seoul, Bangkok, Hong Kong, and beyond.

Rather than approaching the Japanese market first, he intentionally began reaching outward internationally, building connections through independent publishing, direct communication, and zine culture.

“SEOUL” is a photographic exploration of fragments found while walking through the city — reflections, movement, silence, temporary light, distance, and small traces of everyday life.

The project is currently expanding independently across countries and communities, with the long-term goal of sharing the work globally through books, exhibitions, media, and collaborations.

If you are interested in the project, distribution, exhibitions, collaborations, or future publications, please feel free to get in touch.
