SALVAGE

Tokyo is a city that is constantly being destroyed, built, and destroyed again. This cycle reminds me of rapid cell division, and how it brings about repeated changes in form. Tokyo, as it transforms completely every half-century, seems to have given up

To complement my own memories of living in the city, I attempted to salvage fragments of memory through photography and development. Dr. Lisa Genova states that "memory is the sum of what you remember and what you've forgotten". She further notes that "We easily rewrite our memories." Thus, memory is not merely a record of past events, but something that constantly fluctuates and transforms.

For me, photographs are not just records, but a means to collect and reconstruct memories. Between the changes in the city and in memory, I am constantly searching for the point of contact.
