The red line marks the boundary between "before" and "after" — birth, marriage, loss, illness. This project explores what happens when reality collapses, and whether pain can lead us toward empathy, connection, and rebirth.
The red line is a line that, sooner or later, exists in everyone’s life. It is a boundary between “before” and “after.” There are events after which life as we knew it can no longer exist in the same way. The birth of a child, marriage, the loss of someone close, a serious illness — completely different events, yet each of them can fundamentally change a person and their life. Over the course of just a few days, exactly these kinds of changes happened in the lives of people close to me: a child was born into one family, someone got married, someone lost a very close person, and someone was diagnosed with a terminal illness and still does not know how to live with what comes next. Everyone experiences their red line differently. We each have our own threshold of sensitivity, our own pain, and our own way of dealing with what can no longer be changed. I want to dedicate this work to everyone who has already encountered such a boundary, or who will encounter it someday. I am interested in what happens to a person within this transition: when familiar reality collapses and we are forced to rebuild our relationship with ourselves, with others, with life and, perhaps, with faith. This project is about pain, support and rebirth, but also about empathy. About remembering that the person beside us may be going through their own personal fire, one we know nothing about. And about whether the pain we experience can truly lead us towards something spiritual — or whether we simply need to believe that there is meaning in it. For me, the red line is not only the boundary between “before” and “after”, but also a moment in which our human capacity to be there for another person becomes particularly visible.
