PLAYFULNESS

“Playfulness” is an invitation to look at the world through children’s eyes and to reconnect with our inner child. This multidisciplinary project is a collaboration with my daughters where the images become a canvas on which they can express themselves.

"Playfulness” is an invitation to look at the world through children’s eyes and to reconnect with our inner child. This multidisciplinary project is a collaboration with my daughters where the images become a canvas on which they can express themselves.

As I watched Giovanna and Bianca playing, I felt the need to capture those fleeting moments. I have very few photos from when I was young, so it was important to me to document and keep a record of their childhood. However, I soon realised that my perspective as both a mother and a photographer wasn’t enough to fully capture their universe.

That's why the project has grown beyond the boundaries of photography and combines with other media that better suits my children's gaze. By adding drawings, writings and collages, along with videos and voice recordings, they make my photos their own to question the world and to express their feelings.

Together, we create “visual tales” in a realm where nature plays an essential role, where everything is possible and where dreams and reality meet. This is a dialogue between mother and daughters, between inner and outer worlds.

Being closer to my daughters helped me to reconnect with the little girl I once was and allowed me to know better the woman I am today.

This selection looks back on their childhood. A second chapter is now beginning: adolescence. We aim to continue this series throughout their journey into adulthood and to create a trilogy.

For me, our project tells the story of childhood and the discovery of life in a more creative and playful way. Playfulness invites us to marvel at everything around us and to transform it through our imagination, bringing more colour to life and treating it as a game.

Bianca

For me, Playfulness is like a visual documentary that blends the thoughts, the creations and the evolution of my sister and me. Through our photos, we see life from the perspective of children, who are often neither listened to nor taken seriously!
