PAPER BOAT

Paper boat - a symbol of women who "floats" in life steadily, exuding a sense of stability, harmony and divinity. Paper, as a material, may seem fragile, but under certain conditions, it can reveal unexpected resilience and strength.

In contemporary Chinese society, the age range for "older" women is generally considered to be between 27 and 45 years old. These women face multiple pressures from marriage, work, finances, and self-fulfillment, which is not just a personal issue but a broader social phenomenon. They are often labeled as "marriageable" or "advanced in age," and the conflict between societal expectations and personal aspirations leads to complex psychological pressures

As a professional woman in this age group, I deeply feel the existence of these challenges and constraints, and I am searching for answers through self-exploration. In this photography project, I interviewed women from different backgrounds to understand their life circumstances and how they cope with the pressures they face. My goal is to showcase their resilience and struggles under societal pressure. These women are often burdened with many labels, which hinder them from becoming truly independent individuals.

My work not only records the current state of women but also aims to evoke empathy and reflection in the viewer, sparking deeper social discussions. It is a re-examination of female social identities and an affirmation of the value of diverse ways of life.
