An ongoing visual study into a neighborhood reshaped by construction, archiving its in-between state through fragments of unfinished sites. The images create near-utopian scenes that question the gap between real-estate visions and lived urban reality.
Own Your Piece of the Sky is an ongoing visual investigation showing the ever changing landscape in my own neighbourhood. Streets are dominated by construction sites where towering concrete silhouettes of new worlds to live in take shape. Observing this transformation I record the physical state of my neighborhood at a particular moment, making an archive of this in-between place. By isolating the fragments of these spaces - unfinished buildings, barriers, debris, machinerie and frameworks- I explore how the visual language of cities is constructed.
Through repositioning these fragments into their original surroundings, the images create new landscapes that linger between reality and imagination. In these compositions, the construction sites are transformed into near utopian worlds. This re-imagining echoes the polished visual language that real estate imagery is built upon. Clear blue skies, clean surfaces and seductive perspectives question the gap between the idealized vision of the big city and the reality of the people who live in them.
