"On the Hard" is a series of stormy seascapes found on tiny sections of boat hulls in dry dock. I had already started examining these hulls when, one day, I was out sailing and a storm unexpectedly surrounded us. Before we could reach safe harbor we lost sight of the bow much less land. The work changed after the storm. I began to recognize that these worn surfaces resemble the natural world which the vessels were built to navigate. They were telling the tales of the storms they had traversed and reminding me of the power of the sea and that we are not in control of her. Each piece is named after the sailboat it was made from.
