Old Cloth Blue Hallway

The room was so large and empty it felt overwhelming to go from one end to the other, so Sara made a transparent hallway out of cloth that window light shined through. Walking through it was like a momentary safety passage in life that I wanted to share.

Lately there has been so much on my mind that I could not go anywhere. I have friends in different countries that are at war with each other. I wish there could be peace in the near future. I looked at some pictures I took a few months ago of my friend’s cloth hallway. She made it so people could walk through the large room safely and know where to go. The cloth was old, blue, and faded by the afternoon sun that came in strong through the windows. Walking through the hallway I always felt like I was floating. The lack of anyone’s personal belongings in that space created a deeper appreciation for the natural light and the way in which it shined through the cloth. I took the pictures because I knew that the building was going to be demolished and I felt an urgency to capture the hallway. I went back to take more pictures, but I was too late, and everything had been torn down and it startled me. I found the cloth in a dusty pile and took it. The images were made with minimal resources, just the cloth and the light.
