'My mother, the source' is a visual and sound archaeology that questions matrilineal filiation and transmission of family lexical. Born in Marseille, I come from a family with Italian origins that has invented over the generations its own traditions, expressions and superstitions that blend Provence, Marseille, Italy and the Mediterranean. I’m very attached to the matriarchal status of my family and to the important roles of women in the process of transmitting customs, know-how, beliefs, cooking and myths. My gestures, expressions and little rituals are nothing more than mimicry inherited from my mother and grandmother, bearers and creators of family memories. Here, I am taking stock of the links and traces that bind us. Like an anthropological work, I collect material – archives, documents, letters – material witnesses of this transmission, I record the voice of the women who surround me and those I meet with whom I have the Mediterranean as a common point. Beyond an intimate and personal story, 'My mother, the source' is part of a universal and collective memory.
