Mirabilia Curiosa

Series of portraits depicting my daughter as various characters chosen by her. Idea constraints and improvisations as artistic process.

This is a series started more like an exercise, but which gain substance and meaning on the way. And from image to image, it became more complex and twisted.

Basically these are ideas of my 10 yo daughter, characters or situations she likes. There were set in a minimalistic way.

And sparked by the lockdown, to find a meaning, to work with what you have.

The early epidemic context is very important, with all the anxious thoughts about the future, about a new life.

And this became an attempt to seize this moment, this uniqueness (hopefully). This is a too strong moment not to act on it.

Is a project about child dreams, imagination filtered through a somber level. Is an exercise to work with someone else ideas, like combining thoughts and dreams. An essay about the different sides of a person. Childhood elements in a darker, mature key, but still keeping a bit of naïveté.

And all in a repetitive and minimalistic frame, with an assumed staged photography feeling.
