Mexicano

Mexicano is an anthropological and socio-cultural project mapping contemporary Mexico from north to south through analog photography. Its purpose is to highlight the rich diversity and deep complexities of this country.

The Mexicano project is an anthropological and visual investigation into the complex identity of contemporary Mexico. Developed entirely through black and white analog photography, this body of work explores the rich physiognomic, cultural, and social diversity that coexists within the country, moving beyond the traditional visual imaginary and its more stereotyped representations.

The exclusive use of film and the grayscale is not a mere aesthetic choice, but an intentional act of reduction. By stripping reality of the chaos of color, the lens focuses on the purity of light, the structure of spaces, and the profound truth of the gaze. In doing so, Mexicano seamlessly unites the human being, the architecture, and everyday objects as indissoluble elements, offering an organic, layered, and authentic overview of the country's culture and identity.

Contributing to this overview, in a cadenced visual rhythm, are images of details, objects, and local architectural geometries that do not serve as a simple backdrop, but as genuine symbolic fragments of the Mexican territory.
