I understand the "Body" as a question, the eternal paradigm of what constitutes the "I", the dialectical relationship between the ambivalences mind-flesh, soma-psyche, matter-spirit or any of the already existing dualistic pairs known to all, “ME” is based on the tangible part of these dualisms.
Being a woman and Latin American, I grew up with foreign beauty standards, the homogeneous notions of North American aesthetics regarding the body, determined in my adolescence the way I saw myself. For a long time I tried to hide what made me different from the rest: Big moles, fewer teeth, crooked fingers. Now, from this observation exercise, I stop to think about the peculiarities and subjectivation processes regarding the female body; my own subjectivity when it comes to seeing myself and seeing the matter in which I live.
Through a series of guided experiments and using my own body as an object of study, I plastically analyze residues, textures and volumes of my body. Through photography, scanning and performance.
