matrescence an impasse.

Acts of mothering;

this ongoing series of work explores the relationship between mother and child, encroached in a whirling hum of domesticity, a documentary approach to the deep work that is child rearing. As I write, the very word in this moment 'Matrescence' it is in fact scripted in red with no known suggestions. These moments are fleeting, the mothers that have gone before us, forgotten. These images are part of a conversation on the honest experiences of motherhood, bearing children continues to be fundamental to our civilisation, as we know it, although it is forever forgotten.

Chrystal works in both analogue and digital photography, within both black and white and colour, capturing the raw, faded memories, often overlooked as we move through seasons of motherhood. After her first daughters birth she is deeply interested in the plight of the mother and her work continues to capture the internal space that we witness in the wisdom of nature and the juxtaposing beauty of the mother, mothering and motherhood
