Mater Semper (Certa) Est is an ongoing mixed media exploration through photographs and film installation. This project echoes my last two series: I Never Told Anyone and Les Ulysses. I explore the different levels of construction of the female identity from adolescence to adulthood and I envision the successive roles that women are able to embody: child, wife, mistress, mother….
The process is the same: I study for several months a social thematic related to: woman as an object of desire, curiosity or even commodification. Then, after having collected various testimonies, I invite these women to be part of my universe.
Each of my project meets a singular aesthetic where the place of the staging is strong. Perhaps influenced by my drama and screenwriting courses.
In Mater Semper (Certa) Est, I am interested in how science becomes myth and how science yearning towards omnipotence had an impact on women’s body and mind. In this child conquest, I am wondering about the glorification of the will at the expense of the body and its life experience. What about the moon? Our cycles? Our feminine unconscious?
My intention is not to pass judgment nor to oppose two myths: the scientific territory and the feminine territory but to raise ethical issues, human responsibility or how the scientist protocol acts and governs procreation. I am trying to study their construction, their language and show how women lose all sense of nature. I am also wondering about what the female body contains, how this body uses chance, the psychic and the magic.
Like the artist who is searching for what is going on outside of his will.
Over the past few months, I have been able to meet several persons who enlightened me by their different views and practices: Some thirty women
connected, cut or in osmosis with their bodies, an obstetrician gynecologist, a Professor that creates transferable embryos every day, a philosopher or a psychoanalyst (in relation with families from the MAP) who are supporting me in this project.
