Born in Shreveport, LA , Ransom Ashley is a photographer, actor, and cinematographer. He attended Parsons The New School for Design in New York City where he was concentrating on photography and went on to receive his Bachelor of Science in Psychology.

The stories of marginalized communities are rarely told and are often washed over by outsiders when they do find a voice. Growing up in small town Louisiana as someone who deviated from the status quo, I quickly became aware of this as my own identity was consistently invalidated by those around me. It’s this unseen inner struggle that I hope to illuminate with my visual work on the nuances and experiences of those within the LGBTQIA+ community. My photographs often depict a world that is equally real and unreal; my subjects often hiding behind the characters we create together that probe at the truth beyond the spectacle of the still image. It’s this cinematic approach to my medium that I soon discovered frees us both to unleash our vulnerabilities, hopefully inspiring reflection on part of the viewer.
