Maelstrom is a study that rejects the idea of conflict as an interruption of balance—instead proposing that it is the balance. An ongoing negotiation through which the world shapes itself. Photos bring attention to a quiet clash, pulling from all walks.

Not aiming to resolve the negotiation; rather photographing within it, attentive to its textures and rhythms.

This collection has gathered over a long span, from the uneasy center of things—places where forces collide and find anew. Whether I'm taking a walk to work, or gazing at a neighborhood park during lunch, looking around reveals a constant push and pull. A maelstrom is not just a storm; it is a structure made of opposition, a system sustained by friction. Photography is used to document that fated meeting—amongst situations of nature vs. nurture, interpersonal relations, industrialization, growth and decay, economic disparity, and human goals/achievements. The work argues that we're here to clash regardless, and so we might as well gaze into the maelstrom—appreciating some of the rugged balance.

Elements meet in unique opposition. Figures stand at thresholds—shorelines, fault lines, weather fronts—occupying spaces where stability is temporary.
