Made for Loving reflects on expectations imposed upon us — what we are made for — and how these expectations can be appropriated and reconstructed, allowing for freer expressions of love, identity, and the body.
This process of re-imagining something given and transforming it into something else is inspired by Ursula K. Le Guin’s book The Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction. In it, she re-imagines
the first human technology not as a weapon, but as a carrier bag — an object that carries, holds, and contains. Made for Loving repurposes familiar narratives of love and gender expression, putting them face to face with a new discourse.
Objects throughout the work evoke cliches and ideals, yet exist in tension with brutality. They do not deny its presence; rather, they coexist with it, challenging the social expectations and very spaces we inhabit.
