A black and white photographic series documenting the spirit of a Nubian Village in Southern Egypt.
In my recent photographic series, I explore the local life of a Nubian village in Southern Egypt through the timeless medium of black and white photography. This lens allows me to strip away distractions and focus on the essence of my subjects—their expressions, their interactions, and the rich textures of Nubian land.
Spending time in Nubia was critical to create a meaningful series that would represent the people, the land, and their culture authentically. I stayed with a family in a small village on the West Bank of the Nile, where houses were painted brightly coloured, where baby crocodiles would run loose in the streets, and where children would laugh as they played down by the water.
Nubia is a land steeped in history and culture, where tradition and resilience thrive in the face of modern challenges. The monochromatic palette serves as a canvas for emotion, emphasizing the interplay of light and shadow that defines this vibrant community. It brings forth the stark beauty of their surroundings and the intricate details that often go unnoticed. In this visual narrative, I aim to highlight the depth of their humanity and the richness of their heritage.
This body of work is not merely a documentation; it is a celebration of identity, resilience, and the profound bonds of community. Through these images, I hope to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for the Nubian people and their cultural legacy, inviting viewers to connect with their world on a more intimate level.
I invite you to journey into the heart of Nubia, revealing the enduring power of community and the beauty of the human spirit.
