LET'S EAT CAKE

The LET’S EAT CAKE series is a historical and personal collection of street documentary images that follows the journey to marriage equality in Australia from 2009 to 2018. Images capture the vibrant fighting spirit of the LGBTI community and its allies marching together to demonstrate the support for equal marriage rights in Australia for all.

2009 Hunt attended her first marriage equality march and made a promise to herself that she would participate in as many marches for marriage equality as she could. Hunt always brought her camera with her, with the belief that “We needed to capture our journey of making history”.

The photographs follow marches in Sydney and Melbourne and captures key events such as the plebiscite announcement on 15th November 2017 and the Marriage Bill amendment at Parliament House on 7th December 2017 and with the additions of the celebrations afterwards by community. This series commemorate and honours ALL those who have fought and marched for marriage equality. It is a historical record of a campaign that was won for the People by the People. The selection of images presented are a small collection of the larger series.
