Leftovers proposes a new pace and attentiveness – to reflect upon the transitory states of domestic objects, rural landscapes, and intimate vignettes of city-living. The things we employ everyday serve as reflections of how we care for ourselves.
Leftovers is a project about my relationship to the objects and spaces we choose to surround ourselves with. These photographs depict domestic objects, rural landscapes, and intimate vignettes of city-living. By focusing on the often overlooked traces of our experiences, these images suggest broader narratives rather than only a glimpse of a timeline. They hint towards the shared meals, the conversations held, the recurring sounds, or even the amount of time an object was used before being photographed.
The things we touch, smell, consume, or simply employ everyday serve as reflections of how we care for ourselves. Not only do these subjects reflect our interests and habits, but their transitory states mirror the ways in which we are constantly growing and changing. For instance, a bush moments after it was carefully trimmed, a speaker coated in dusty fingerprints, a fresh layer of snow sliding off a handrail, excess sunscreen wiped on a post, or the curled tail of an excited puppy all embody specific value, through their unique imprints of human interaction and familiarity.
This project proposes a new pace and attentiveness to discovering subjects and engaging with my surroundings. I hope that these photographs can offer a space to foster gratitude for the inconsistencies and ever-changing nature inherent in these quotidian objects and scenes.
