Le Temps des Cerises” captures the Japanese countryside through the seasons, reflecting on fleeting beauty, sakura bloom, and the quiet, poetic rhythms of rural life and human connection to nature.
Le Temps des Cerises is a photographic series born from a desire to slow down, observe carefully, and find meaning in the seemingly invisible: silences, gestures, and quiet presences. Having lived in Japan for several years, I have gradually embraced the slow rhythm of the countryside, where the passing seasons shape both the landscape and daily life.
The project follows the subtle pulse of rural Japan, from the orchards of Gunma to the tranquil fields of Shizuoka, capturing both the land and the people deeply connected to it. Rather than offering a comprehensive documentary, the series presents fragments of lived experience: a weathered hand at work, the soft light of a misty morning, the gaze of an elderly woman in her wooden home.
As a French photographer living in Japan, my perspective is shaped by both distance and closeness. Through the lens, I explore the delicate ties between identity, memory, and environment. In this work, the countryside becomes a character in its own right—fragile yet resilient, simple yet infinitely nuanced.
Le Temps des Cerises is an invitation to rediscover the beauty of the ordinary, to marvel at the poetry of stillness, and to uncover the richness hidden in everyday life.
