Analog pictures from the Primer Encuentro internacional de las Mujeres que Luchan - First International Meeting of Women who Struggle - organized by the Zapatistas in the Caracol de Morelia, Chiapas, Mexico, during the month of March of 2018.
It was a historic moment in Mexico where more than 8,000 women from all over the world gathered for 4 days, under the protection of the female Zapatista army, exchanging during conferences and workshops, sharing about ancestral wisdoms, medicine, politics, art, sport, music and dance, in complete freedom and security.
I went in order to present my project of portraits of missing women in Mexico City painted from their notices of disappearance that I came across during my daily comings and goings, but also to participate in the workshops. I realized these few days that for the first time in my life, I felt free in my body, protected, without fear, without censorship. It was very strong, both brutal to realize it but also deeply happy to feel it.
