La chasse aux papillons

La chasse aux papillons (Chasing butterflies) is a long-term exploration of patriarchy and gender in a society where religion, tradition, social environment and education policy impose it's rule.

In this project I juxtapose two universes : the street, a space of exposure and representation that is largely conservative and that could be seen as verified symbols of virile masculinity (cafes, football fields, motorcycle parking lots ) and the secret garden; an isolated space free from prejudice and performance.

This series can be seen as quest; A search for stifled and silenced aspects of masculinity.

During the encounter with my subjects, I allow them to strip away the things that they use to conceal themselves. In this context of newfound fragility, they can express sensitivities usually repressed in everyday life.

The gentle vulnerability that emerges in the context of our encounter, which I conceive of as this secret garden, is what I seek to capture .

For an instant, I allow another type of masculinity to exist, and, in this way, I deconstruct the stereotypes in which they have to assume a role, to arrive at the conclusion that allowing multiple masculinities to coexist is the sanest way to live in a society and to break apart the patriarchal system that pervades this society
