Jacopo

In his project Jacopo Italian photographer Michele Brancati explores his personal dream of fatherhood.

In his project Jacopo Italian photographer Michele Brancati explores his personal dream of fatherhood. The up-close look on both, environment and identity, offer visual fragments that approach the reality, complexity and variety of a “dream-come-true” as well as the fields of tension that they produce. The works portray proximity and distance between father and son as individuals. In this context, both have to constantly re-invent themselves regarding the intimacy of the roles as family members, as well as the connection to their environment. The photographer’s eye observes the son through the lens, bringing to light not only the father’s protectiveness, but also the son’s emancipation from this dependence. The ambiguity of being together as a family, and the child’s desire to discover itself and the world around it, become the characteristic momentum of a relationship, that, in the perpetual passing of time, escape any static definition. The subtext of the photographs allows insights into the existential bond between father and son, which, despite the growing space between them, never loses emotional proximity.
