"Intimate Convictions" aims to raise questions about rape culture and the prevalence of drug facilitated assaults in French society. This series intends to bring out the banality of these crimes, and to shift the gaze we cast on them.
Intimate Convictions deals with the construction of power relations in our societies, seen through the lens of sexual violence. It examines the significance that violence takes on when it occurs in our most private interactions. It raises questions about the prevalence of rape culture in French society. « Spiked », presented here, is the first chapter of this work. It discusses the banality of drug-facilitated assaults, seen through the prism of their perpetrators. This work is the result of several weeks of research in the French newsmedia, carried out with the support of the Prix Elysée 2025, of which I am one of the finalists. Every single image talks about a true story. Every single image showcases a real substance, on which I engraved the job and age of the perpetrator associated to it. A very methodical legend describes in each image the type of substance involved, its effects, its risks, how it was used, and the punishment imposed on the criminal. The succession of images, which follow one another like a litany, recounts the appalling banality of rape culture in France.
