In Between

A country that seems to exist in perpetual motion, always remaking itself and slowly forgetting what it was simultaneously.

In Between is an ongoing photographic exploration of India. I’m interested in how people move through this unstable terrain, shaped by aspirations and the negotiations of survival. These images are about the country's undercurrent. The in-between spaces where exhaustion encounters hope. Also, where aspirations and necessity intersect one another.

In a place driven by acceleration, the act of pausing has become almost far fetched. My inquiry lingers in that pause, revealing lives caught between visibility and disappearance, between the need to belong and the pressure to perform. Through these shifting frames, i am hoping to reflect the fractured state of contemporary life . How our identities are increasingly mediated by social systems and through coercion of popular media. What remains is a collective disorientation, where authenticity is scattered.

The distinction between what sustains us and what consumes us grows uncertain. Yet the blur extends beyond human life. The country's geography with its concrete, iron, and glass mirrors the same tension. What was once organic has been partitioned by development, dividing nature from those who inhabit it. The built environment becomes both habitat and barrier. A living instance of progress and its cost.

At its core, In Between is an anthropological reflection on urban becoming of how migration, ambition and memory shape human psyche and the city's geography. My enquiry is into what exists when everything from soil, structure, and self is in flux and what trace of humanity remains as the world around it dissolves.
