When does our existence begin and what does the journey we take to enter into the world look like?
It was during my second pregnancy that I started reflecting on the way we come to life. That enigmatic connection between mother and child brought me to consider that our journey actually starts long before we are born.
I started reading about the mysteries of fetal life and got inspired by the work of neonatologists who demonstrated how the fetal brain actually delivers the signals that starts the process of birth.
Using my camera to explore the fleeting beauty of the in-between world, I combined my feelings associated with the progress of the pregnancy to my daughter's perspective, trying to figure out what she might have experienced, what she might have felt whilst being kept inside the womb?
The imagery spans from evoking images of a far away universe to a gaze to my family and to the present, whilst the narrative follows the notes of a space odyssey where light is used as incarnation of life itself.
This work is a tribute to life and to my daughter, a way to celebrate her entry into this life, to welcome her and to support her passage from the invisibile to the visible world. A dialogue between present and future generations.
A general sense of waiting and a dreamy like status surrounds the whole body of work.
