Dariusz Jasak presents works from his "high dimension" series. Our gaze comes into contact with a minimalist structures made of steel and glass, which occupy the entire surface of the photographs. This approximation gives the impression of an unreal monoliths, in which the recognition of individual shapes becomes possible only on closer inspection. In this work Jasak has digitally manipulated photographs of architecture. He duplicates shapes, changes the scale. With the help of technology, he interferes with architecture dominated by technological progress. This repetition causes a disturbance in perception and, in effect, we become an element of visual disinformation. The accumulation of repetitive elements tires the eyes and makes us dizzy, as do the unnaturally large buildings, which we are unable to encompass with a single glance. The work rubs up against the op-art tradition using the phenomenon of afterimages.
The artist is interested in how urban planning affects people's lives, especially in the dimension of globalization - after the industrial revolution and the technological advances that followed it, architecture around the world seems to be moving in the same direction. Skyscrapers, the size of which is limited by the strength of materials, are disconnected from the human scale. More and more people are living in cities, so they are becoming a natural habitat. In an increasingly interconnected world, the differences between people are no longer along political boundaries, but between the sizes of the cities they inhabit. The photos were taken in some of these metropolises- symbols and emanations of late capitalism, causing an economically viable accumulation of as many people as possible in as little space as possible. They therefore require a distinctive, unified, efficient structures with a minimalist appearance. It is impossible to know at a glance where the photos were taken. The artist creates a kind of extraterritorial topographies. Thus, he takes up a futuristic and perhaps even dystopian theme.
All important ideas were first created on paper as a kind of sketch that gives unlimited freedom. Today's technology not only allows prototypes to be built to scale, but also shows that in many futuristic visions there is no limit that can inhibit their realization. Today's progressive sketches and mock-ups are pushing us toward a world in which one of us will surely one day find ourselves. Jasak asks whether the course dictated by the constant progress we are heading is the right one.
A very important part of this project is proper presentation - the works should be presented in large formats, with the possibility of viewing them from afar as well as up close, and in a quality that makes it possible to decipher the individual objects from which the composition is made. It is important to use appropriate lighting which is designed to intensify the afterimage effect.
