Heartland

This is a story of Earth.It is a depiction of the vast wilderness and the raw frontier. This series of photographs illuminates the ancient, sacred and majestic power of untouched lands in Northern California and the American Southwest.

In this ongoing series of photographs, I seek out certain unique scenes that exist in the raw, natural world. I am building a collection of images, that are symbols of the sacred, untouched and undeveloped lands that still remain today. It seems that these lands are disappearing steadily, in our modern times.

I search for scenes where there is no human interference. I am also looking for places that have unique forms (for creative inspiration), as well as an ancient, mysterious, and sacred quality. One of my goals is that each image is it's own, strong entity, and at the same time contributes and functions within the series (or should I say collective?). It is my hope that these photographs can serve as a reminder of how beautiful our world is.

This series is mainly comprised of work from the Southwestern United States (where I happen to be extremely inspired by the landscape), as well as from Northern California, where I have been living since 2010.

A key component to these photographs is that they are printed by hand in the darkroom, using the alternative Lith Printing Process. This method of making prints adds a special dimension for the creative expression of these wild lands.
