Galdr

A "galdr" is Norse magic, brought about by songs or incantations. Despite these being photographs, if you study them close, you too can hear the magic. Shot on 35mm film.

I hadn’t visited the ocean in far too long. I missed it deeply and dearly. In May of 2023, I finally caved, and we went to the Washington Coast to find peace at the sea and revive our souls. We wanted to soak in the magic of the shoreline, drink deep from the briny mist, dance in the howling winds. And so we did.

The magic in this world doesn’t manifest like we see in the stories of old. No, its much more subtle than a flash of otherworldly light or a conjured specter. It’s in the dew on the blades of an early spring grass. It’s in the song of trees as they dance in the wind. It’s in the deepest seas where the wisest and oldest creatures lurk.

There was indeed a magic at that rocky beach, it was ancient. If you the viewer skim over these images, you may catch a glimpse of it. But stay a while and linger within each frame, and you’ll surely see it like we did.

But you can already feel it, can’t you?
