Future Kids

Future Kids is a longterm collaboration with Leila, Mo, Coco and Ilhan. They're the children of muslim guest workers and the first generation that was born in Germany. Together we question the common narratives about young muslims and break them up.

'My life is a joke for you. Not one of these good jokes that one shares and laughs about together. no. a joke on a generation without perspectives. you point with your fingers. but not on yourselves.' - Ilhan

I met Leila, Coco, Mo and İlhan in 2016 and we decided that we would collaborate on telling their stories.

They are the children of muslim migrants from Turkey, Jordan and Palestine and belong to the first generation that was born and raised in Germany.

In 2017 we started to photograph in Berlin, between Kottbusser Tor and the tower blocks on the city’s outskirts, gentrification and social benefits, Hip Hop and religious traditions, but over the years their paths have taken them to Stuttgart, Krefeld and Poland.

Their stories tell of the past and the present, of places of (imagined) existence, of inner and outer struggles, of growing up and ultimately of their search for their place of belonging.

What unites them is their struggle to meet different expectations, by the society, their immediate environment and themselves.

Together we question the common narratives about immigrants and the following generations and break them up in a very personal way.
