Matt Elliott's first four albums "The Mess We Made", "Drinking Songs", "Failing Songs", "Howling Songs" form a tetrad of an impression I'm compelled to call catatonic inebriation. We are not in the safety of our home, nor at the chaos of a bar, but on a quicksand made of liquor and grief. It does not doom us to sinking, nor can we stand freely over it. The familiarity of our homes and the density of our bars have both ceased to exist by now. All that remain are we, our sorrows and our moonshine.
