Familia Italo Venezolana traces my family’s migration from Italy to Venezuela in 1957. Through my great uncle Vittorio’s story, photos, and memories, it reflects on belonging, distance, and generational journeys.

Familia Italo Venezolana is a personal project about the migration of my family to Venezuela in the late 1957. My grandfather Attilio left Abruzzo for Venezuela, followed by his brother Vittorio. While my grandfather eventually returned to Italy, my great uncle Vittorio remained in Venezuela for the rest of his life.

I began this project in 2018 by calling my great uncle in Venezuela. During a phone interview, he recounted his migration story. Why he left, when he arrived, and how he built a life there. As he spoke, family photos of him and my grandfather appear in the video, visually narrating a life lived far away, yet deeply connected to home.

In the summer of 2023, Vittorio passed away in Venezuela. His memories now live on in his grandchildren, Francesco and Sabrina, who migrated to Spain in 2022 amid Venezuela’s ongoing crisis.
