Envolturas

Skin is the first wrapping; landscape, the last. Between the two lie water, air and earth. In Envolturas, body and landscape share a single membrane.

Skin is the first wrapping; landscape, the last. Between the two lie water, air and earth. In Envolturas, body and landscape share a single membrane: the place where what is inside and what is outside touch and exchange.

The bare torso of a child blurs with movement against a pale background, as if its outline had not yet been fixed. Lines of ink run over the skin of arms and legs, recalling roots, veins or cracks. Outside the body, the same line changes scale: a pale sky over the sea, a whirl of water and foam seen from above, a plane among clouds, a hollow in the sand, a human shadow lying on the rock with its arms open, a small island in a grey sea, a green-toned stone under water.

What interests me is a gesture that repeats itself at different scales. What is a vein in the skin is a crack in the rock; what is a pore in the body is a hollow in the sand. I photograph edges: those places of osmosis, half-light and blur where it is never quite clear where one thing ends and everything else begins.

Envolturas was shown as a solo exhibition at the Atelier de Fotografía in A Coruña in 2023.
