Thousands of Afghans immigrate to Iran each year . Iran is one of the most important places for Afghans to migrate . Most of them due to lack of passports enter Iran across land borders. They travel long distances through the impassable mountains on foot to enter Iran and many of them lose their lives along these paths.

Afghans who enter Iran illegally are scattered throughout this country. Due to the illegality of their stay, they always have many problems. Thousands of them are being returned to Afghanistan annually by the Iranian government for lack of residence permits.
