Following the death of my grandmother-matriarch Francisca, the infrastructure of care built over generations collapsed and the family home came under sustained real estate speculation leading to its sale and eventual demolition.

The family home was demolished in December 2025. From then on, my research took a new turn and I began to ask myself the following question: why was I unable to protect this house?

I am still trying to understand how a care infrastructure is being replaced by an economic model. I have collected various testimonies from 2018 to the present day. My father told me that an estate agent walked into our house without knocking, saying he desperately wanted to buy it and coming across as quite aggressive. My father simply told him: ‘Get out of my house.’ A neighbour told me exactly the same story, and he replied to the estate agent: ‘And where am I supposed to go?’ My grandparents told me that they were given a blank cheque on as many as three occasions and that they always replied with the same words: ‘The house isn’t for sale.’

Through a photographic archive comprising images from the family album, documentary photographs and other materials I have collected, I reconstruct an inner question that reflects one of the consequences of the property crisis in Spain, in a region deeply marked by mass tourism.

Part of this project has been developed and produced as a new body of work for exhibition at Cortona On The Move 2025, with the support of the Institut d’Estudis Baleàrics.
