Within my ongoing series Domesticated the quotidian woman takes center stage, offering a humorous view on domestic desperation, exasperation, and the female image. Taken within the confines of the home, the portraits showcase the ever-shifting feeling of womanhood and sexuality as it relates to oneself and those living close to us. For women with children, it is at times impossible to be seen as anything other than a mother, a body that is not just our own. The images aim to recapture this autonomy and see how the female body takes on new meaning within a domestic setting, where the otherwise sexual, becomes mundane. 

Countering the pervasive narrative that a woman’s body is a utilitarian tool meant to satisfy or nurture, these images aim to be an honest portrayal: a documentation of a body that does not weaken with the societal and familial weights placed upon it. The images engage the viewer in an unsettling proximity, where the raw and unrefined imagery gives the viewer the feeling of observing a candid moment without pretenses. The strategic placement of subjects and image composition create a multitude of female figures that can be read as one: domesticated woman.
