(DE)COMPOSITIONS AND BIOCITIES - METAPHOR OF LIFE

The series of installations photography+sculpture that I have titled "(De)Compositions-Metaphor of Life" wants to show that if we look with more attentive eyes we can see different realities from those we are accustomed to, and that the same bricks that make up reality can, if combined in a different way, give life to different realities.

FIRST STEP. In these installations the photography of the "Biocities" series tells a perspective of contemporary architecture as if it were pure abstract geometry, in which the subject's recognition, depth and three-dimensionality of the original place often fade away completely. And my art is above all a search for the synthesis, the essential forms, the geometric combinations produced by the overlapping and interweaving of architectural structures that populate our cities. I'm not interested in buildings in themselves, nor in reality at first sight. I focus on lines, intersections, combinations of shapes. This is why I look for particular perspectives, unusual points of view, angles and visual glimpses from which the architectures are mixed in a dialogue of lines, shapes, contrasts of light and color that takes on an almost biological meaning.

SECOND STEP. But then, using the same geometrical shapes that are in the architectural photo, I realize installations in plexiglass, or glass sculptures, or also steel sculpture painted with acrilic (these last one realized by my friend hyperrealist painter Andrea Ciresola) in which I recovery the three-dimensionality of original location, but reintepreting it.

Then the path starts from the three-dimensional architecture to arrive at the two-dimensionality of a geometric abstract photography, and then to return to a new but different three-dimensionality of the sculptures formed by the same geometric elements that made up the photograph. The result of this change is a different place than the original, but made with his own same bricks: another environment, but always of the same original material.

A result that is also a metaphor of our continuous transformation as people, fruit - as Freud and Young explained to us - of the continuous re-composition and renewal of the elements (ideas, emotions, experiences) of which we human beings are made. And from this psychological meaning of the research comes the second part of the title that I gave to this series of installations: “Metaphor of Life”.

This my project is part, since 2015, of the Malerba Photography Foundation Archive, a prestigious italian institution dedicated to the promotion of photography at a national and international level:

And one my installation of this series - the installation “(De)Composition London # 1” - has been acquired, since 2013, in the permanent collection 2.0 of the Palazzo Collicola Museum of Contemporary Art in Spoleto (Italy).
