Constellations (Sensory scapes)

My practice is informed by my experience as an immigrant mother/woman/artist and deeply influenced by my South American heritage. I am currently exploring ways in which sensory processing affects personal experience.

I am currently exploring ways in which sensory processing affects personal experience.Using photograms and solar graphs I am seeking to capture intense feelings associated with Sensory processing disorder.*

I retrieve objects that cause high levels of stress in my neurodiverse child's life and use them to capture her distraught feelings utilising the immediacy of camera less techniques.

These small prints ,when shown together, create a personal constellation based on someone's unique sensory perception.

We give for granted standardized ways of perceiving the world and learning. Differences are seeing as anomalies that need to be corrected instead of evaluating the efficiency of the environment.

We rely on our ability to take in information through our senses (touch, movement, smell, taste, vision, and hearing) to interpret that information and to survive. What happens when this information is imprecise or unsuitable?

My aim is to invite other participants to submit their objects of distress and through interviews keep developing this body of work which at the moment is circumscribed to my household.

*Sensory processing disorder is a condition in which the brain has trouble receiving and responding to information that comes in through the senses.
